SINGAPORE – Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for a marathon in the sky! Singapore Airlines (SIA) has once again claimed the coveted title of operating the world’s longest commercial flight, launching a non-stop service between Singapore and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Clocking in at a staggering 18 hours and 40 minutes for the eastbound journey, the route surpasses SIA’s own previous record held by the Singapore-Newark route, which was discontinued in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The inaugural flight, SQ24, took off from Singapore Changi Airport on Wednesday, carrying a full load of passengers eager to experience the ultra-long-haul journey. Operated by the Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range), the aircraft is specially configured for comfort on such extended flights, featuring higher ceilings, larger windows, and an optimized cabin environment to minimize jet lag.
“We are thrilled to be re-launching this iconic route, connecting two of the world’s most dynamic cities,” said (Insert name), CEO of Singapore Airlines. “This service not only provides a convenient travel option for our customers, but also reinforces our commitment to pushing the boundaries of aviation innovation.”
The demand for non-stop flights between Singapore and New York has been steadily increasing, particularly among business travelers seeking to maximize productivity and minimize travel time. The new route also caters to leisure travelers eager to explore Southeast Asia without enduring multiple layovers.
However, the ultra-long-haul experience comes with its own set of challenges. To address concerns about passenger comfort and well-being, SIA has introduced a range of amenities and services, including specially curated meals designed to aid digestion and promote hydration, curated in-flight entertainment options, and ergonomically designed seats for optimal comfort.
The airline is also working closely with health experts to provide advice and guidance to passengers on managing jet lag and maximizing comfort during the extended flight.
With the launch of this new route, Singapore Airlines has not only recaptured the “world’s longest flight” title, but also cemented its position as a leader in aviation innovation and passenger experience.
