Air Serbia has made a bold move by launching new direct flights between Belgrade and Shanghai, defying the trend of European airlines reducing their services to China. Starting January 11, 2024, Air Serbia will operate this route twice a week, with flights from Belgrade on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and returns from Shanghai on Wednesdays and Sundays. This expansion comes at a time when several major European airlines are cutting back on Chinese routes due to logistical challenges.
Unlike other airlines, Air Serbia is taking advantage of the growing demand for travel between Europe and China. With its Airbus A330-200 fleet, the airline is set to continue offering these flights through the summer of 2025. Tickets are already on sale, and the airline aims to strengthen ties between the two countries with this new connection.
Additionally, Air Serbia has recently added a Belgrade to Guangzhou route, expanding its reach in China. The new Shanghai service will offer seamless onward connections to many European cities, including Vienna, Prague, and Frankfurt. This move solidifies Air Serbia’s position as a key player in bridging Europe and Asia, while other Western airlines are pulling back.
Many European airlines, such as British Airways and Lufthansa, are cutting their routes to China due to longer flight times caused by airspace restrictions. Meanwhile, Chinese airlines are increasing their services, capitalizing on quicker routes and growing travel demand.
