Over 35 years with Alaska Airlines, he has demonstrated extraordinary loyalty. As a result, he earns lifetime MVP Gold status, which he can share with a companion.
So, how did Routh achieve this impressive distance? During the summer, he officially became Alaska Airlines’ first guest to hit 3 Million Miler status. This distance equals flying around the Earth over 120 times. Alternatively, it represents enough miles to travel to the moon and back six times.
Achieving this incredible milestone required time and dedication. Routh flew two to three days weekly across the West Coast and Hawaii to support his title insurance company. His three-millionth mile occurred on a flight from Seattle to Orlando, Florida. The flight crew celebrated this achievement with balloons, cake, and a unique luggage tag crafted from the fuselage of a vintage Convair CV-240 aircraft.
For frequent fliers, Alaska Airlines honors loyalty by presenting unique keepsakes. For instance, those who reach the 2 Million Mile mark and above receive a Golden Nugget luggage tag. Each tag is hand-cut from the fuselage of a retired jet. Thus, it transforms a piece of aviation history into a useful work of art.
Moreover, the Convair CV-240, manufactured between 1947 and 1954, once served as part of Alaska Airlines’ historic “Golden Nugget Service.” This service pays tribute to Alaska’s gold rush era in the 1890s, marking a significant transition into the jet age.
What does Routh do with his extraordinary mileage? He generously uses his points to bring veterans recovering from trauma to his homes in Alaska and Oklahoma for restorative getaways. Over the last 15 years, he has hosted over 1,200 veterans for weekends filled with fishing and hunting. Thus, he thanks them for their service.
Routh’s loyalty to Alaska Airlines remains steadfast. Other airlines have attempted to entice him with tempting perks; however, he remains dedicated. He values the relationships he has built with Alaska Airlines staff and appreciates the consistent care he receives.
Even as a pilot with his jet, Routh prefers flying with Alaska Airlines. He finds more enjoyment in flying with others than sitting alone in his aircraft.
