Turkish Airlines Launches Direct Route to Chile

Turkish Airlines expands its network by introducing a new route from Istanbul to Santiago, Chile. Starting December 18, 2024, the airline will operate four weekly flights from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL). This route includes a stop in São Paulo, Brazil, allowing Turkish Airlines to serve two key markets efficiently.

This expansion marks a significant milestone, making Santiago the ninth city in Latin America served by Turkish Airlines. The airline already connects travelers to Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Cancun, Mexico City, Caracas, Havana, Panama City, and São Paulo. Thus, Turkish Airlines now operates in ten countries across the Americas.

The new flights establish the first direct link between Turkey and Chile, strengthening economic and cultural ties. Additionally, this service enhances access for travelers, promoting tourism and business exchanges. For Santiago, this addition brings its eighth direct connection to Europe, complementing existing flights to Madrid, Paris, London, and Barcelona.

Furthermore, the Santiago route will operate as a fifth-freedom flight from São Paulo. This setup optimizes aircraft and crew utilization, as Turkish Airlines already runs 11 weekly flights to São Paulo. This strategic move opens new revenue opportunities in both Chile and Brazil, expanding the customer base.

Additionally, the new route allows Turkish Airlines to assess demand for future nonstop service between Istanbul and Santiago. If passenger numbers meet expectations, the airline may consider launching a direct flight.

The route will use Airbus A350-900 aircraft, which are modern and fuel-efficient. These planes offer enhanced passenger comfort with quieter engines and reduced fuel consumption. Turkish Airlines will provide both Business Class and Economy Class, ensuring a comfortable journey for all travelers.

This expansion aligns with Turkish Airlines’ strategy to grow its global reach in regions with increasing international travel demand. Latin America represents a growing market, as its economic growth and rising tourism create new opportunities. Santiago serves as a vital hub for international trade and tourism in the region.

Turkish Airlines’ new flights between Istanbul and Santiago signify a leap forward in expanding its presence in Latin America. These four weekly flights open doors to trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Additionally, the new route enhances global connectivity for Santiago, giving travelers more options to explore Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
