Air India prepares for a significant transition as it merges with Vistara. This merger will introduce distinct flight codes, ensuring a seamless experience for travelers. Moreover, passengers can still book Vistara flights, which will now display a unique code under the Air India booking system. This change aims to maintain Vistara’s identity while enhancing Air India’s offerings.
In a recent announcement, Air India reassured customers that Vistara’s exceptional service will remain unchanged after the merger. Thus, travelers can continue enjoying the same world-class fleet and familiar staff, now operating under the new code AI 2XXX. Currently, Air India uses the IATA code AI for its flights, making it easier to understand the new system. For instance, a Vistara-operated flight might appear as AI 2123.
This merger represents a pivotal moment for both airlines. Consequently, Air India aims to expand its network and improve benefits for all passengers. The combined entity will offer a unified travel experience, promising a broader range of services and opportunities.
Back in November 2022, Air India and Vistara officially announced their merger. Specifically, Tata Sons, the new owners of Air India, partnered with Singapore Airlines, a minority stakeholder in Vistara. This collaboration emphasizes both companies’ commitment to enhancing Air India’s growth and competitiveness in the aviation market.
Furthermore, Singapore Airlines plans to invest substantially in Air India to secure a 25.1% stake in the newly formed entity. This investment will bolster Air India’s position in the ever-expanding Indian aviation landscape. Additionally, it allows Singapore Airlines to engage more directly with this booming market.
As Vistara approaches its final days, Air India prepares to retire the Vistara brand. Air India has a long-standing reputation, having operated for over 90 years. While Vistara has thrived domestically, Air India’s legacy holds more weight internationally. Therefore, this merger will celebrate Vistara’s heritage while integrating it into the Air India brand.
Both airlines will complete their merger on November 11. Starting in early September, Vistara has gradually ceased flight bookings for dates after November 12. Consequently, passengers looking to travel after this date will be redirected to Air India’s booking system.
This strategic merger marks a new era for Air India, setting the stage for a bright future in the aviation industry.
