Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) now offers a new central tunnel, making it easier to move between Concourse A and B. This 1,200-foot connection is part of SLC’s Phase 3 redevelopment, which also includes new concessions and more Delta Air Lines gates. Travelers can quickly navigate the airport, eliminating the previous 2,000-foot walk to reach Concourse B.
The tunnel provides a faster and more scenic route. Passengers can enjoy a vibrant art installation that resembles the flow of a river. Fins wrapped in high-quality fabric and blue LED lights create a calming atmosphere.
SLC spent $80 million on the River Tunnel project. From this, $5.5 million went to artistic features. Additionally, the tunnel includes a sound system that plays over 100 songs, ranging from classical music to modern tunes, enhancing the travel experience.
SLC’s $4.1 billion overhaul continues to reshape the airport. The project includes a 909,000 square-foot terminal and two extended concourses. Once finished, Concourse A will measure 3,800 feet, and Concourse B will extend 3,400 feet. These upgrades will increase the airport’s capacity, enabling it to handle up to 34 million passengers yearly.
In addition, the airport will feature a new 3,600-vehicle parking garage, doubling the current capacity. SLC will also introduce an advanced baggage system and an underground train, streamlining travel for passengers and marking a new chapter for Salt Lake City International Airport.
