Spirit Airlines Expands Routes from Atlanta

Spirit Airlines is making a bold move by adding new routes from Atlanta to Columbus, Indianapolis, and San Antonio. This ultra-low-cost carrier aims to boost its network following significant challenges. Recently, Spirit cut over 30 routes, which has prompted a reevaluation of its operations.

Starting in Spring 2025, travelers will enjoy new daily flights from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Specifically, the service includes routes to John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH), Indianapolis International Airport (IND), and San Antonio International Airport (SAT). These additions mark an important step for Spirit Airlines as it seeks to stabilize its network.

The ATL-CMH and ATL-SAT routes will launch on April 9, 2025. Meanwhile, the ATL-IND service is set to begin on May 7. For the ATL-CMH route, Spirit plans to schedule 44 flights in April on its A320neo aircraft. Consequently, this route will provide 7,744 seats during that month. In May, nearly 7,400 seats will still be available, ensuring ample options for travelers.

Likewise, the ATL-SAT route will also feature daily flights starting on April 9. Notably, Spirit Airlines will maintain the same A320neo operations for this route. Additionally, the daily service to IND will offer 30 scheduled flights, thus delivering approximately 5,280 seats.

Competition on these routes is fierce; however, Delta Air Lines dominates ATL by offering services on all three new routes. In May alone, Delta will operate an astounding 496 flights between ATL and CMH, providing a massive 88,846 seats. Furthermore, Southwest Airlines also competes, providing 62 flights with a total of 9,410 seats for the ATL-CMH route.

For travelers, this expansion by Spirit Airlines significantly enhances options and fosters competition among airlines. As the airline industry continues to evolve, Spirit’s growth could indeed signify a promising future for budget travelers in Atlanta.
