Lufthansa’s MSP Flights End: What You Need to Know!

Lufthansa will soon discontinue its flights from Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) after a short-lived service. The airline launched its nonstop flights to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) just five months ago, in June. However, due to challenges with aircraft availability, Lufthansa must change its plans.

According to recent reports, Lufthansa will halt operations between MSP and FRA on April 29, 2025. Initially, the airline intended to offer year-round flights. Since June 4th, it has used the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for this route, operating five times weekly. Lufthansa’s presence in MSP has been beneficial, especially since Delta Air Lines, the airport’s largest carrier, does not serve this route. Nevertheless, Lufthansa faces competition; Condor Airlines also operates seasonal nonstop flights to MSP from FRA.

Currently, Condor offers three weekly flights on its Airbus A330-900neo. When Lufthansa began its service, Condor had already been flying the route. By September 13th, Condor’s flights paused for an eight-month break. In September alone, Lufthansa conducted 44 flights, providing over 16,650 seats to travelers.

This month, Lufthansa scheduled 42 flights, totaling nearly 12,350 seats. Despite the upcoming busy holiday season, the airline plans to reduce frequencies. From next month, it will operate 32 flights in each direction. December will see only 30 flights, offering a total of 8,820 seats.

Beginning January 14th, Lufthansa will introduce the A340-300 for a limited time. The airline anticipates a total of 34 flights that month. February will feature 24 flights, and March will have 36. By April, Lufthansa will conduct 42 flights before exiting MSP.

The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) confirmed this transition. Lufthansa’s service will shift to Discover Airlines, its leisure airline subsidiary, starting May 2025. This change stems from aircraft delivery delays, not poor performance. Lufthansa aims to return to MSP by 2026, demonstrating confidence in the route’s stability.
