KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially launched its new flight route between Portland and Amsterdam, significantly enhancing connectivity for travelers. This direct service marks KLM’s 21st destination in North America, thus showcasing the airline’s commitment to expanding its transatlantic network.

The inaugural flight on October 27, 2024, utilized a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, arriving at Portland International Airport (PDX) after a journey of nearly ten hours. This route replaces the previous service operated by Delta Air Lines, which had connected these cities for 15 years. Moreover, Portland, known for its vibrant culture and proximity to stunning natural attractions like Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge, now enjoys a direct link to Europe.

Currently, KLM operates three flights per week, specifically scheduled for Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. The flights depart from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) at 10:25 AM, landing in Portland at 11:25 AM local time. Following this, the return flight leaves Portland at 1:25 PM, arriving in Amsterdam the next day at 7:50 AM. This efficient schedule offers travelers significant convenience and choice.

As summer 2025 approaches, KLM plans to expand this service to five flights weekly. Therefore, travelers can look forward to even more options, as the airline adjusts its schedule to meet demand. In the summer, flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Portland International Airport is not solely reliant on KLM for international travel. In addition, other airlines, like Air Canada and Alaska Airlines, operate numerous international routes. British Airways connects Portland directly to London, while Icelandair provides flights to Reykjavík. For those seeking a winter getaway, Volaris offers connections to popular destinations in Mexico.

This new route not only strengthens KLM’s presence in the U.S. market but also enhances travel options for passengers eager to explore Europe and beyond.
