Delta Air Lines Reopens Direct Route to Buenos Aires

Delta Air Lines has launched its seasonal flights from New York’s JFK Airport to Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport. The service began on October 27, aligning with the IATA Winter Season. Delta Air Lines will operate this route daily using its state-of-the-art Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This flight will continue until March 29, 2025.

The New York-Buenos Aires route presents challenges. Previously, SkyTeam partner Aerolíneas Argentinas discontinued the service due to substantial financial losses. As Delta Air Lines assumes control, the airline hopes to leverage its strong market presence to ensure success.

Last year, Delta Air Lines also resumed this winter-only connection, marking its return after a hiatus since 2009. The airline aims to provide convenience for both business and leisure travelers. Delta Air Lines emphasizes strategic scheduling and high-quality onboard service to enhance the travel experience.

The A330-900neo aircraft will feature a well-thought-out configuration. It includes 168 economy seats, 56 in Delta Comfort+ with added amenities, and 28 premium economy seats in Delta Premium Select. Additionally, 29 luxurious Delta One Suites will cater to business-class travelers. In November alone, Delta Air Lines will offer 8,430 seats on this route.

Aerolíneas Argentinas exited the New York route on August 10. The airline cited significant losses, estimating $250,000 lost during February and March. They redirected their focus to more profitable destinations like Madrid and Miami, adjusting their flight frequencies accordingly.

In contrast, Delta Air Lines sees potential for growth. The airline is even considering making the Buenos Aires-New York route available year-round. Delta recognizes that the Argentine market remains resilient, with a diverse traveler profile. Following the pandemic, demand for premium travel options has surged. Delta Air Lines is well-positioned to meet this demand and expand its operations in this vibrant market.
