Wizz Air proudly holds the EMEA Environmental Sustainability Airline Group title for 2024. CAPA’s Airline Leader Summit & Sustainability Awards granted this honor, recognizing Wizz Air’s significant climate-focused progress. This marks the third consecutive year of Wizz Air’s leadership in sustainability.
Wizz Air maintains a modern fleet of 224 aircraft, over 60% of which are Airbus A321neo models. These planes consume 20% less fuel and reduce noise by 50%, supporting the airline’s goals. Wizz Air plans to reduce carbon intensity by 25% by 2030 and aims for 10% of flights using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). To support these goals, the airline introduced SAF routes from Budapest to Barcelona and Brussels Charleroi, gathering passenger feedback on this innovation.
Wizz Air not only focuses on its own sustainability goals but also champions industry-wide change. By working with SAF producers and aviation regulators, Wizz Air fosters cleaner travel. With a fleet averaging 4.43 years, it sets a new standard with 52 grams of CO2 per passenger-kilometer. This milestone highlights the airline’s environmental strategy and inspires others aiming for net-zero emissions.
CAPA’s Environmental Sustainability Awards, driven by independent research, recognize leading airlines like Wizz Air that prioritize climate action. These awards underscore the importance of industry collaboration to achieve the net-zero goal, emphasizing that every aviation player, from fuel providers to manufacturers, must help reduce emissions. Wizz Air’s commitment exemplifies how airlines can align with environmental goals, guiding the industry toward a cleaner future.
