San Diego International Airport (SAN) will launch a new international route to Amsterdam in May. KLM will provide this connection, marking SAN’s tenth international destination and increasing European travel options for San Diego residents.
KLM’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will operate the route, offering 30 seats in World Business Class, 21 in Premium Comfort Class, and 224 in Economy. Flights will depart from Amsterdam at 9:50 AM and reach San Diego by noon. The return journey leaves San Diego at 1:55 PM and arrives in Amsterdam the next day at 9:15 AM. This schedule offers business and leisure travelers greater flexibility.
As the seventh international airline at SAN, KLM strengthens the airport’s role in global travel. KLM’s route also connects San Diego travelers with 160 European destinations through Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS).
San Diego’s direct European routes now include British Airways’ flights to London and Lufthansa’s service to Munich. KLM’s entry reinforces SAN’s position as a key player in international travel. Frequent flyers can also use Delta SkyMiles with KLM’s SkyTeam Alliance to enjoy loyalty perks.
This new route coincides with SAN’s New T1 expansion, which will add gates, amenities, and space for more international flights. The expansion ensures greater comfort for both locals and visitors.
KLM is growing its North American reach with new routes to Georgetown, Guyana, and Hyderabad, India. These routes open up more travel options for U.S. residents in 2025 and beyond.
