Turkish Airlines continues to enhance its fleet with a new deal to lease six Airbus A321neos from BOC Aviation. These aircraft will be delivered by 2027, further solidifying Turkish Airlines’ commitment to expanding its fleet amid operational challenges.
As part of its ongoing fleet modernization, Turkish Airlines currently operates 66 Airbus A321neos. Additionally, it has placed an order for 199 more units. However, the airline has faced significant setbacks, as 35 of these A321neos remain grounded due to engine issues. The aircraft’s Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM engines have caused disruptions in flight schedules, prompting the airline to reach a compensation agreement with the engine manufacturer.
The grounding has impacted Turkish Airlines’ operations, with a reduction of 9.1% in its A321neo flights this November. Despite these difficulties, the airline’s most popular routes, including services to London Heathrow, remain operational, though slightly reduced. The frequency of flights to Tbilisi, Georgia, also remains steady, with Turkish Airlines operating two configurations of the A321neo on this route.
In addition to regional flights, Turkish Airlines operates several long-haul routes with the A321neo. Notably, the longest of these flights connects Istanbul to Almaty, covering 2,444 miles. The airline also services destinations like Addis Ababa, Marrakech, and Astana, using the A321neo for flights exceeding 2,000 miles.
Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines is expanding its presence in the U.S. The airline will add more flights to Denver starting next year, increasing its weekly services and boosting capacity by 8,000 seats. This expansion aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy to grow its U.S. destinations, aiming for 20 U.S. cities by 2025.
Looking ahead, Turkish Airlines is poised for continued growth with these fleet enhancements and increased service offerings.
