Singapore Airlines Incident at Delhi Airport: What You Need to Know

On November 25, 2024, a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 rolled back at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The rollback occurred after the aircraft, arriving on flight SQ406 from Singapore, docked at its gate. The pilots forgot to engage the parking brakes, which caused the plane to roll back.

Although no passengers were hurt, a cabin crew member suffered a minor injury when the plane moved. The pilot quickly applied the brakes to stop the aircraft. Ground personnel then towed the plane back into position. Passengers disembarked without any delays or issues.

Singapore Airlines confirmed that the pilot immediately applied the brakes to stop the aircraft. Once the plane stopped, the pilots informed air traffic control. They then towed the aircraft safely. The crew member received medical attention and returned to duty. Singapore Airlines apologized for the inconvenience and reassured passengers that safety remains their priority.

Delhi’s airport did not release an official statement, but sources said the parking bay has a slight slope. This slope caused the rollback when the pilots neglected to engage the parking brakes. The incident happened at 8:14 PM when the aircraft began to move, but the pilot applied the brakes quickly to stop it.

This incident highlights the importance of following standard procedures. Pilots must set the parking brakes after docking. Ground personnel secure the aircraft with wheel chocks. In this case, the failure to engage the parking brakes led to the rollback. The airport has not confirmed any formal investigation or disciplinary action against the crew.

Earlier, Singapore Airlines faced another issue. In September 2024, flight SQ893 faced delays for hours due to technical problems. The aircraft also suffered a power outage. Despite these setbacks, Singapore Airlines maintains a strong safety record. These incidents, however, show the need for operational reviews to improve the travel experience.
