Ryanair is expanding its network at Paris Orly Airport (ORY) for the summer 2025 season. The airline secured 840 slots, marking its long-awaited entry at the airport. As a result, Ryanair will offer daily flights to Bratislava, Slovakia, and Milan Bergamo, Italy, strengthening its presence in the French capital.
The slots came from a pool of 8,112 available at Paris Orly, with 50% allocated to new entrants, following European Union regulations. This expansion highlights Ryanair’s growing presence in France, offering passengers an easier route to these popular European destinations from a central Paris airport.
Previously, Ryanair operated mainly from Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport (BVA), located 56 miles from central Paris. However, Paris Orly’s proximity—just 11 miles from the city—provides passengers with a faster connection. Additionally, Ryanair also runs flights from Paris Chalons-Vatry Airport (XCR), which is farther from Paris. This move helps Ryanair cater to more travelers seeking quicker access to the city.
Although Ryanair secured flights to Slovakia and Italy, it didn’t win approval for additional routes. The airline applied for routes to Cologne Bonn, Dublin, Gdańsk, and others. However, these proposals were denied by the authorities.
The slot allocation comes amid Ryanair’s concerns about potential cuts to its French regional routes. If the French government increases passenger taxes, Ryanair may reduce its capacity on these routes by 50% starting January 2025. The French government is currently debating this tax increase, which could raise €1 billion in additional revenue.
Ryanair maintains a strong presence in France, operating at 22 airports. Its largest base is at BVA, followed by Marseille and Toulouse. Furthermore, the airline serves smaller French cities, offering affordable travel options across a broad network.
Ryanair has not commented on the recent Paris Orly slot allocation. Nevertheless, this expansion suggests the airline is committed to growing its presence in France, providing more travel options for both leisure and business passengers.
