On December 4, 2024, a LOT Polish Airlines Embraer ERJ-175, operating flight LO269 from Warsaw to Amsterdam, was forced to turn back due to a cabin pressurization issue. The aircraft departed Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) with Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) as its destination. However, shortly after taking off, the crew received a “Cabin Altitude High” warning when climbing through 28,000 feet.
Upon receiving the alert, the flight crew swiftly initiated a precautionary descent, reducing the altitude to 10,000 feet. This action helped stabilize the aircraft as it made its way back to Warsaw. The Embraer ERJ-175 landed safely on runway 33 at Warsaw Chopin Airport, just about one hour after its initial departure. Thankfully, there were no further issues during the flight’s return journey.
The aircraft involved, registered SP-LIA, is an 18.8-year-old Embraer ERJ-175 that has been in service with LOT Polish Airlines since 2006. As of December 2024, it continues to serve the airline’s regional routes. The Polish aviation safety authorities have already launched an investigation into the pressurization problem to determine its exact cause.
Flight LO269 had taken off at 2011 local time, and the pressurization issue occurred during the climb. Despite the early setback, the crew managed the situation efficiently and safely returned the aircraft to its departure point. Both LOT Polish Airlines and the regulatory bodies are working together to ensure the airline’s continued safety and reliability.
