Korean Air is celebrating 30 years of connecting Korea and China with a series of special events. In December 2024, the airline marked this milestone with activities at major airports in China. These events highlight Korean Air’s ongoing commitment to strengthening ties between both countries.
On December 22, festivities began at Beijing Capital International Airport and Shenyang Taoxian International Airport. The airline surprised the 30th passenger on flights KE2202 (Beijing-Seoul Gimpo) and KE832 (Shenyang-Seoul Incheon) with exclusive round-trip tickets in Prestige Class. All passengers received limited-edition tote bags celebrating the 30th anniversary of Korean Air.
Further celebrations took place on December 24 at Tianjin Binhai International Airport and Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport. Travelers aboard flights KE806 (Tianjin-Seoul Incheon) and KE846 (Qingdao-Seoul Incheon) enjoyed commemorative events marking the anniversary.
Since launching its first route to Beijing on December 22, 1994, Korean Air has grown its presence in China. Today, the airline operates 27 routes to 21 cities, making significant strides toward restoring its pre-pandemic flight capacity. By December 2024, it had restored 95% of its previous capacity.
Korean Air’s impact goes beyond aviation. The airline actively contributes to local communities. Through its Ai Xin Ji Hua initiative, it has supported Chinese students since 2008. Additionally, its environmental efforts in Inner Mongolia’s Kubuqi Desert have led to the planting of 1.57 million trees. These initiatives highlight Korean Air’s dedication to both environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
The airline also plays a vital humanitarian role. It has provided aid during major crises, including floods in Hubei and the Sichuan earthquake. More recently, it donated medical supplies to Wuhan during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Korean Air celebrates 30 successful years, its future in China looks bright. The airline aims to strengthen its route network and enhance services, further promoting cultural and economic ties between the two nations. Korean Air’s commitment to connectivity, community, and environmental conservation solidifies its role as a key player in fostering relations between Korea and China.
