The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) investigates a close call at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where air traffic controllers quickly prevented a collision between a private jet and a Delta Airlines flight.

On Friday at 4:30 p.m., Delta Airlines Flight 471 received clearance to take off for Atlanta. At the same time, Key Lime Air Flight 563, a private charter, had just landed. Air traffic controllers immediately told the Key Lime pilot to stop before crossing the active runway. The controller’s timely instruction avoided a crash with the Delta flight, which was ready for takeoff.

The dramatic moments appeared in a YouTube livestream by Airline Videos, an aviation channel. Viewers heard the controller firmly instructing the Key Lime pilot to “hold position,” emphasizing the urgency.

Key Lime Air, a Colorado-based airline offering cargo and charter services, operated Flight 563 for Gonzaga University’s men’s basketball team. The university expressed relief after the incident, confirming everyone was safe. The FAA has not shared more details as its investigation continues. Key Lime Air did not comment at the time.

This close call underscores the critical role air traffic controllers play in ensuring safety, especially at busy airports like LAX. Controllers’ swift actions ensured a safe outcome, proving the importance of vigilance in aviation operations.
