Brussels Airlines backs the plan to link Brussels Airport to the high-speed rail network. The airline sees this move as a key way to enhance airport access and promote environmental sustainability. Brussels is a key hub for flights to sub-Saharan Africa, but many travelers from nearby countries struggle to find convenient routes to the airport. The rail link will improve access and help reduce the environmental impact of car travel.
Brussels Airlines believes the rail connection will strengthen its position as the top choice for African flights. The direct link will make it easier for passengers to reach the airport. The project also supports the airline’s eco-friendly goals by reducing the need for short-haul flights and car travel.
Unlike many nearby countries, Brussels Airport doesn’t have a direct high-speed rail connection. Passengers often transfer at Brussels-South station for high-speed services. This extra step is inconvenient, especially for intercontinental travelers with heavy luggage.
A direct high-speed rail line will simplify travel and improve passenger convenience. Brussels Airlines calls on stakeholders to prioritize this project. The airline encourages collaboration to speed up the plan, which benefits aviation, passengers, and the environment.
Currently, passengers can take a train to Brussels Airport but must transfer at Brussels-South. The new Airport Tramway, set to begin construction by early 2026, will connect the airport to the city center in 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Brussels Airlines continues to push for a high-speed rail link as part of the intermodal plan to improve access.
