Air India will stop its Kochi-London flights starting March 30, 2025, dealing a major blow to Kerala’s access to the UK. This change is part of Air India’s larger restructuring of London operations for the Northern Summer 2025 (NS25) season. The final direct flight on this route will operate on March 30, 2025, ending Kerala’s only direct UK link.
Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) launched the direct London service in September 2024 to improve Kerala’s global connectivity. CIAL made the route more attractive by waiving landing and parking fees, helping airlines reduce costs. The service gained traction as it became the only direct flight from Kerala to Europe, particularly for travelers to the UK.
India-UK air connectivity improved when the UK removed India from its red list, easing travel. This shift helped CIAL, Air India, and the Kerala government work together to establish the Kochi-London service. Now, with the suspension of this route, Kochi will no longer be Kerala’s only airport with direct European flights, weakening its global links.
Air India’s decision to cut the route signals a shift in its focus. Although the airline will continue serving international routes, this cancellation creates a gap in direct UK travel for Kerala. This change challenges Kerala’s standing in international air traffic, as travelers will face longer journeys and complex connections.
Air India’s restructured flight schedule will impact both travelers and Kerala’s international connections. The end of the Kochi-London service leaves a significant void in Kerala’s air connectivity.
