Exciting Changes at Air India: Expanded Workforce with a Youthful Edge!

Air India has taken significant steps to expand its workforce. The airline hired 9,000 new employees, including 5,000 crew members. This growth supports its increasing fleet and expanding network. The recruitment effort is part of Air India’s five-year transformation initiative, Vihaan.AI, under Tata Group’s ownership.

In the last financial year, Air India saw a 25% increase in operating revenues. It also reduced its losses by more than 50%. These changes mark a pivotal moment for the airline.

The recent hiring has lowered the average employee age from 54 to 35 years. This change brings fresh talent and energy to Air India, enhancing its operations.

Air India is also modernizing its fleet. The airline plans to refurbish 67 narrow-body aircraft by mid-2025. It will upgrade cabin configurations and seating at a pace of three to four aircraft per month.

Currently, Air India operates a fleet of 142 aircraft. It has launched 35 new routes, including 10 domestic and 25 international. The airline added 11 new destinations, which comprise 2 domestic and 9 international routes.

Since Tata Group acquired the airline in January 2022, efforts have intensified to consolidate its aviation business. The integration of Air India Express and AIX Connect will conclude by October. Additionally, the merger of Air India and Vistara is scheduled for November. These moves will strengthen Air India’s position in the competitive airline industry.
