Portugal’s national airline, TAP Portugal, is bringing back direct flights between Faro and Madeira after 22 years. This long-awaited route will reconnect two of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, offering travelers a faster and more convenient journey.
Flights will begin on June 2 and continue until September 11. The airline will operate two weekly flights, one on Monday night and another on Thursday morning. Throughout the season, the airline will provide 30 flights, offering over 3,000 seats in each direction.
The history of this route dates back to 1999 when TAP Portugal operated it during the winter season. However, it discontinued the service in 2003. Between 2010 and 2016, another airline temporarily connected Faro and Madeira. Now, TAP Portugal is stepping in again, aiming to strengthen domestic air travel and enhance accessibility between these two key regions.
This renewed connection is expected to boost domestic tourism and create new opportunities for residents and businesses. Many travelers, including students and entrepreneurs, will benefit from a more direct and efficient travel option. Additionally, Madeira residents flying this route will receive financial support, similar to subsidies for flights to Lisbon and Porto.
The return of this route also reflects TAP Portugal’s growing commitment to Madeira. The airline has expanded services in recent years, including reintroducing a direct flight to Caracas. This move enhances connectivity for both locals and tourists, reinforcing Madeira’s position as a well-connected travel hub.
TAP Portugal’s decision to resume this route addresses a long-standing demand. If successful, the airline may extend the service beyond the summer season, offering year-round connectivity between Faro and Madeira.
