Qatar Airways is Reigniting Kigali—Here’s Why You Should Visit Rwanda Now!

Qatar Airways will relaunch its Kigali route on May 14, 2025, boosting travel between Rwanda and Qatar. This step brings new opportunities for travelers and African travel agents. After a three-year gap, Qatar Airways returns to challenge RwandAir’s dominance on the Doha-Kigali route. This competition will offer passengers more choices and greater convenience.

The airline will use the Airbus A320-200 for four weekly flights, which is smaller than the previous Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. This choice matches current demand while still providing 168 seats per flight. Travel agents can now serve a growing market, connecting Doha to Kigali more easily.

Qatar Airways’ return changes Rwanda’s tourism industry. Direct flights from Doha, a major international hub, make Rwanda more accessible. Travel agents can now design diverse travel packages, featuring Rwanda’s wildlife, safaris, and cultural experiences. They can craft trips that showcase Rwanda’s unique tourist attractions.

The code-sharing agreement with RwandAir further strengthens the partnership. Travel agents can offer itineraries that link more destinations worldwide, maximizing booking potential. This expanded network provides more options and flexibility for agents and travelers alike.

Rwanda’s aviation sector continues to grow. In 2023, RwandAir reported a remarkable revenue increase, and the airline plans to double its fleet by 2025. These developments present great opportunities for travel agents to tap into a rising market, offering more choices for travelers and enhancing Rwanda’s reputation as a leading tourist destination.
