Ryanair urges the Walloon Government to act quickly and resolve the security staffing shortages at Charleroi Airport. These delays are creating serious disruptions for travelers, especially with Easter approaching. Queues sometimes last 90 minutes, affecting many passengers. In the first two weeks of April alone, over 2,000 passengers missed flights due to these delays, which Ryanair finds unacceptable.
As the Easter travel period nears, the airline stresses the need for immediate action. Ryanair has raised this issue with Charleroi Airport Management multiple times in the past few months. Yet, the airport continues to struggle with staffing shortages. Right now, only five of the airport’s 11 security lanes are operational, which isn’t enough to handle the daily flow, let alone the expected increase in passengers this Easter.
To address these issues, Ryanair proposes two solutions. The airline suggests bringing in an additional security provider to staff all lanes, as they have done before. Alternatively, they recommend deploying trained military personnel to assist, ensuring that all lanes are open. Ryanair urges the Walloon Government to oversee these measures and ensure smooth operations for the airport.
As families prepare to travel for Easter, Ryanair is particularly concerned about the challenges families with young children face in these long queues. They are calling for immediate intervention to prevent any further delays, which have already caused frustration among many passengers.
