Alaska Airlines Drops 4 Routes from LAX and SFO—Here’s What You Need to Know

Alaska Airlines has made significant changes to its flight network, discontinuing four routes from Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). The cuts will impact services to the East Coast and the Caribbean. The airline will no longer operate flights from Los Angeles to Nassau (NAS) during the winter season.

Furthermore, flights between Los Angeles and Washington Dulles (IAD) will end after August 19, 2025. Alaska Airlines is also removing service between San Francisco and Washington Dulles (IAD) and Chicago O’Hare (ORD), effective after the same date.

In addition, Alaska’s seasonal route between Seattle (SEA) and Nassau (NAS) faces uncertainty. The airline has not yet added this route to its schedules, raising concerns about its future. It appears that Alaska may be planning to exit the Nassau market entirely.

As Alaska Airlines makes these cuts, Hawaiian Airlines is shifting its strategy. Hawaiian is deploying its Boeing 787 Dreamliner on Seattle to Honolulu (HNL) routes, replacing the Airbus A330-200. Starting August 20, Hawaiian will operate daily 787 flights between Seattle and Honolulu, and by September 11, the airline will add a second daily 787 flight. At the same time, Hawaiian is reducing its 787 service to Los Angeles, with the last flight scheduled for October 26. Additionally, Hawaiian is extending its 787 service between Honolulu and New York (JFK) through September 10.

Both airlines seem to be optimizing their networks to focus on profitable routes. Alaska Airlines is consolidating service in markets where it faces strong competition, while Hawaiian Airlines is expanding its 787 fleet on longer routes where fuel efficiency is a key factor.
