Delta Air Lines Flight DL215, en route from Rome to Atlanta, made an emergency landing in Dublin after a passenger experienced a medical crisis mid-flight. The Airbus A350-900 was cruising over the eastern Atlantic when the crew decided to divert to Dublin Airport for urgent medical attention. The flight had originally left Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, heading to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
However, as the aircraft neared the Irish coast, the situation on board escalated, prompting the crew to seek the nearest available airport with medical facilities capable of handling such emergencies.
The flight crew swiftly informed air traffic control and was granted permission to change course. They navigated through Irish airspace and prepared for an emergency landing. During the approach, the crew faced strong tailwinds, which forced them to abandon the first landing attempt.
They executed a go-around and successfully landed on Runway 10L. Emergency responders were ready upon landing, providing medical care to the passenger, who was then transported to a hospital in Dublin for further treatment. The identity and condition of the passenger remain private.
After handling the medical emergency, Delta Air Lines began preparations for the aircraft to continue its journey to Atlanta. The flight was refueled and cleared for departure later in the day. Despite the unexpected diversion, the airline kept passengers informed throughout the process, ensuring a smooth transition.
