SpiceJet Soars to Profit With Bold Comeback Moves

SpiceJet has pulled off a bold financial comeback, shaking up India’s aviation sector. After years of losses, the airline has posted a record quarterly profit and its first full-year gain since FY18. In the fourth quarter of FY25, SpiceJet earned ₹319 crore, showing a sharp shift from the ₹404 crore loss in the same quarter last year.

The airline’s strong performance signals a deeper turnaround. SpiceJet not only posted profits but also grew its operational revenue by 17.5% compared to the previous quarter. Its EBITDA more than doubled, reaching ₹527 crore, showing better daily operations and cash flow. Even with some aircraft grounded, the airline kept its load factor high at 88.1%, proving steady customer demand.

Across the full fiscal year, SpiceJet brought in ₹6,736 crore in revenue. This was lower than the previous year’s ₹8,497 crore, but the airline still delivered a ₹48 crore profit. This shift in outcome shows that cost control and better planning now guide the airline’s strategy.

Strategic funding played a key role in this success. SpiceJet raised ₹3,000 crore in capital, clearing dues and fueling operations. This effort also returned the airline to positive net worth territory for the first time in a decade.

During FY25, SpiceJet added 24 domestic routes, especially in smaller cities. This expansion helped meet demand in places where options were limited before. The airline also launched a new international route to Kathmandu.

Maintenance issues continue to limit growth, but steady engine returns should fix this soon. With rising demand across India, SpiceJet’s stronger balance sheet and smarter operations give it a clear path forward.
