The Loyalty Program Reinvented: Air Canada’s New Aeroplan Gives You More for Every Dollar

Air Canada has announced a sweeping transformation of its Aeroplan loyalty program, launching in 2026. This overhaul replaces the old miles-based model with a spend-based structure. The airline aims to reward customers who contribute more financially, rather than just traveling longer distances. By shifting to this value-driven system, Air Canada is aligning its loyalty offering with modern traveler expectations.

Members will now earn Aeroplan points based on their spending instead of miles flown. For example, travelers earn one point for every dollar spent on flight fares and surcharges. This means customers booking premium seats or last-minute flights can accumulate points faster than before. Frequent flyers who regularly invest in Air Canada services will now receive better recognition and faster rewards.

Air Canada is also introducing Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) to simplify how members reach elite status. Members can earn SQC not just from flight bookings but also through partner interactions and credit card usage. This move gives travelers more flexibility to climb the loyalty ladder, especially those who spend more on everyday purchases and travel experiences.

Travelers who achieve elite status unlock a suite of premium perks. These include faster check-ins, free luggage, and access to airport lounges. Additionally, Air Canada will reward consistent engagement with milestone perks for every 10,000 SQC earned. These benefits will encourage members to stay loyal while exploring multiple ways to grow their status.

Starting in 2027, premium Aeroplan credit cardholders will enjoy a 10% bonus on their total annual SQC. This early advantage helps travelers kick off each year closer to elite status. These updates show that Air Canada wants to engage both frequent flyers and high-value customers more deeply.

With this reimagined approach, Air Canada is setting new standards in travel loyalty. Travelers who invest in the airline—financially and consistently—will see more benefits than ever before. The airline’s new direction ensures its most valuable customers feel seen, rewarded, and appreciated.
