Turkish Airlines is set to strengthen its global network by adding Bissau, Guinea-Bissau’s capital, to its routes. The airline aims to capture growing demand in West Africa and enhance travel connectivity.
The new flights will make Bissau Turkish Airlines’ 20th destination in Central and West Africa. The carrier already connects major hubs like Accra, Dakar, and Lagos. With rising demand for international travel, the airline plans to leverage this addition to boost its regional presence.
Currently, Guinea-Bissau’s aviation market is small but evolving. The country has limited flight options and mainly relies on African and European hubs. Presently, Lisbon is the only direct European link. Travelers often face long road journeys or multiple connections to reach global destinations. Turkish Airlines will change that by offering faster access to its worldwide network through Istanbul.
The airline’s move also supports its wider expansion strategy. It recently announced investment plans in European carriers while pushing aggressively into African markets. These steps aim to capture both business and leisure travelers who need convenient routes to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The Istanbul hub will provide passengers from Guinea-Bissau quick access to key international cities.
Turkish Airlines currently operates over 31,500 weekly seats across West Africa. That marks a major jump from previous years and reflects strong market confidence. Adding Bissau further positions the airline as a leading connector between Africa and global markets. This growth plan underscores its vision to dominate emerging aviation corridors while delivering efficient travel choices for regional passengers.
