AirAsia has launched direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Semarang, deepening travel and economic ties between Malaysia and Indonesia. The new service strengthens AirAsia’s growing network in Southeast Asia while boosting the airline’s presence in Indonesia.
The Kuala Lumpur–Semarang route connects Malaysia with Central Java, a region known for its cultural richness and growing economy. Travelers now gain easy access to Central Java’s heritage sites and rising business centers. At the same time, Malaysians can enjoy fresh travel opportunities that enhance tourism and trade cooperation between both nations.
AirAsia continues to expand its role as the largest foreign low-cost carrier in Indonesia. The airline currently flies to 17 destinations across the country, including Jakarta, Bali, Medan, and Yogyakarta. By adding Semarang, AirAsia shows its commitment to strengthening regional access and serving secondary cities that often remain underserved.
This expansion supports Indonesia’s push to attract millions of international visitors by 2025. With direct flights now available, tourists can explore Semarang’s unique attractions such as Kota Lama and Lawang Sewu. The route also opens smoother access for business travelers who seek to explore Central Java’s growing markets.
Malaysia’s upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign will also benefit from the new connectivity. AirAsia makes it easier for Indonesian travelers to visit Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Langkawi. Increased access helps Malaysia position itself as a top tourist destination in Southeast Asia.
Through its new service, AirAsia continues to link regional markets, promote tourism, and encourage stronger cross-border trade. The airline focuses on building affordable and direct routes that deliver value to travelers while advancing economic development. This expansion marks another milestone in AirAsia’s journey to lead regional connectivity in Southeast Asia.
