Delta is expanding its European network by adding nonstop flights from New York to Sardinia and Malta. Starting in summer 2026, travelers can fly directly from JFK to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport and Malta International Airport. Therefore, Delta strengthens its Mediterranean presence and enhances transatlantic connectivity.
The airline introduced the new routes after engaging both passengers and employees. Moreover, Delta asked SkyMiles members and staff to vote for their favorite destinations. Travelers chose Sardinia for its beaches and unique culture. Meanwhile, employees selected Malta for its history and business potential. As a result, Delta launched flights to both islands, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity and customer focus.
Sardinia offers crystal waters, rugged cliffs, and Blue Zone lifestyles. In addition, visitors can explore ancient sites, hike scenic trails, and taste local wines with handmade pasta. Families, solo travelers, and luxury seekers will all find reasons to visit. Consequently, Delta’s direct flights make reaching the island easier than ever before.
Malta blends history with modern living. Furthermore, the island features UNESCO-protected cities, archaeological treasures, and vibrant cultural events. Delta’s new nonstop flights also support business interests by linking the U.S. market with Malta’s economy. Therefore, this move creates new opportunities for tourism and commerce.
Flights to Sardinia begin on May 20, 2026, with four weekly departures. In contrast, the Malta service starts on June 7, 2026, with three weekly flights. Both routes will operate on Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, offering Delta One, Premium Select, Comfort, and Main Cabin. In addition, premium travelers will enjoy Delta One Lounge access in New York.
Delta already serves Rome, Milan, Venice, Naples, and Catania, making it the leading U.S. carrier in Italy. Furthermore, adding Sardinia and Malta enhances its dominance in the Mediterranean and provides direct access without connections. Ultimately, these routes highlight Delta’s strategy to grow customer-driven services and expand its global reach.
