Delta Air Lines Aims High: New Transpacific Route in the Works from Salt Lake City!

Delta Air Lines is planning to expand its international services from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). Reports indicate that the airline may launch a direct route to Seoul, South Korea, next summer. This would be the first transpacific service from SLC in over ten years, marking a significant move for the carrier.

As Delta’s fastest-growing hub, Salt Lake City faces challenges due to its high elevation, which affects flight performance. However, the new service to Seoul would enhance Delta’s current offerings to cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and London. The airline expects to increase seat capacity at SLC by seven percent in 2025, demonstrating its commitment to growth.

To strengthen its presence in the West, Delta plans to boost international seating by 60% year-over-year. Although Delta has not filed official flight plans for the SLC to Incheon International Airport (ICN) route, an announcement may come soon if summer 2025 plans solidify.

Delta has yet to decide which aircraft will operate this new route. The Airbus A350-900 appears to be a strong candidate due to its range of capabilities. However, Salt Lake City’s altitude of 4,265 feet complicates aircraft performance. Some pilots have raised concerns about basing A330 aircraft at Boston Logan International Airport, emphasizing the need for suitable options for SLC routes.

If Delta chooses the A330 fleet for the SLC to ICN route, it will likely favor the A330-900neo. This modern aircraft offers improved fuel efficiency and aligns with Delta’s strategy to optimize operations while addressing challenges from high elevations.

Although Delta has not made official announcements about the new route, the potential for introducing transpacific service from Salt Lake City excites travelers and industry observers alike. As developments unfold, the aviation community eagerly anticipates further updates from the airline.
