Alaska Airlines and JetBlue Airways have faced IT disruptions, causing delays and cancellations across the U.S. These issues disrupted flight operations, check-ins, and customer services. As airlines depend more on technology, such failures show the risks involved.
Alaska Airlines’ website and app recently crashed, blocking passengers from accessing services. This followed an earlier outage that grounded flights nationwide. Both disruptions were caused by a global tech failure related to Microsoft’s Azure platform. There is no clear timeline for fixing the issue. The airline’s stock dropped 2.2% due to the uncertainty surrounding recovery.
JetBlue faced problems at Orlando International Airport, where check-in times were longer than usual. Though the disruption was smaller than Alaska Airlines’, it still caused frustration for travelers. These incidents show how even minor IT failures can lead to major operational issues.
Both airlines now need to act quickly to regain trust. The need for reliable IT systems is more urgent than ever. As air travel grows, airlines must ensure their digital systems can meet rising demand without compromising service.
