China Eastern Revives Delhi-Shanghai Flights After Five Years

China Eastern Airlines has resumed direct flights between Delhi and Shanghai, restoring vital air connectivity. Consequently, this move strengthens economic and diplomatic ties between India and China. Travelers, businesses, and tourists now enjoy faster access between two major economies. Moreover, the renewed route supports trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges while promoting stronger bilateral relations.

The airline will operate flights every alternate day, departing Delhi at 8 PM and arriving in Shanghai early Monday. Likewise, return flights leave Shanghai at 12:30 PM, reaching Delhi by 6 PM. China Eastern aims to expand its presence in India and meet growing demand for direct travel. Therefore, business executives, tourists, and students gain easier access to key destinations in both countries.

The flight revival follows years of suspended operations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and border tensions. However, recent diplomatic efforts and agreements along the Line of Actual Control eased friction. As a result, renewed air services became possible. India and China now focus on trade, technology, tourism, and academic collaboration, strengthening broader economic and cultural partnerships.

This route opens access to Shanghai and surrounding regions, including Hangzhou, Yiwu, and Keqiao, vital industrial and technological hubs. Simultaneously, Indian travelers gain direct entry to Eastern China. Likewise, Chinese visitors explore India’s historical sites, vibrant cities, and cultural landmarks. Consequently, tourism and business interactions are expected to rise as air travel becomes smoother and more convenient.

Earlier in 2024, other carriers like IndiGo resumed flights to Guangzhou, signaling a wider restoration of India-China connectivity. Similarly, China Eastern’s return reflects both countries’ commitment to cooperation and economic growth. Improved air links strengthen people-to-people connections and provide tangible benefits for trade and tourism. Ultimately, this resumption signals optimism and renewed trust, highlighting mutual interest in regional stability and progress.
