Say goodbye to the free-for-all scramble for seats on Southwest Airlines! The budget carrier, known for its unique open seating policy, is officially ending the practice.
Starting March 9th, 2023, passengers will be assigned seats during the booking process, just like on most other airlines.
“This change will provide a more predictable and efficient boarding experience for our customers,” said a Southwest spokesperson.
While some travelers may mourn the end of the open seating era, others are celebrating the move.
“I’m so glad they’re doing this,” said frequent flyer Sarah Jones. “It was always such a stressful experience trying to get a good seat, especially when traveling with my family.”
However, some passengers are concerned about the potential impact on the airline’s low fares.
“I’m worried that assigned seating will lead to higher prices,” said traveler Mark Smith. “Southwest was always the most affordable option for me.”
Only time will tell how this change will affect Southwest Airlines and its passengers. But one thing is for sure: the days of the open seating free-for-all are officially over.
