Wizz Air Launches Direct Flights from Maastricht to Tuzla

Wizz Air has introduced a new direct flight connecting Maastricht and Tuzla, boosting tourism in both regions. Consequently, travelers now enjoy a convenient link between the Netherlands and Bosnia, improving access for leisure, city-break visitors, and diaspora communities. This move also strengthens Maastricht Aachen Airport’s role as a regional hub for cross-border travel.

The service starts on 12 December with twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. Additionally, Wizz Air adds extra Wednesday flights through early January to meet holiday demand. Therefore, travelers benefit from shorter journeys and more predictable schedules, encouraging frequent trips and promoting tourism beyond major cities in Bosnia.

This connection aligns with Maastricht Aachen Airport’s plans to expand as a regional hub. Moreover, the airport targets hundreds of thousands of passengers annually and aims to increase cargo transport while supporting sustainable operations. By using efficient narrow-body aircraft, the route reduces travel time and carbon emissions compared to larger, busier hubs further north.

The Maastricht–Tuzla link also serves first- and next-generation migrants, enabling easier visits to family and strengthening cultural connections. Furthermore, VFR tourism creates consistent traffic year-round and boosts local economies through accommodation, retail, and services spending.

Travelers from Limburg, the Benelux region, and surrounding areas gain new access to Bosnia and the Balkans. In addition, Tuzla provides onward connections by road and bus to other regional destinations, opening opportunities for cultural trips, nature explorations, and lesser-known city visits.

Wizz Air plans to expand Maastricht routes in summer 2026, adding multiple Eastern and Central European destinations. All flights will use Airbus A321neo aircraft, which offer better fuel efficiency, larger passenger capacity, and reduced noise. Consequently, these measures align with the airport’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2030 and demonstrate a commitment to sustainable tourism growth.

By launching these routes, Wizz Air creates stronger tourism links, encourages regional travel, and positions Maastricht as a gateway to the Balkans.
