As JetBlue expands its loyalty partnerships, the airline has started adding surcharges on United award tickets. Consequently, this adjustment weakens the appeal of using TrueBlue points for partner flights. Although JetBlue promotes flexibility, this pricing shift limits the benefit for frequent flyers.

At the same time, this development highlights broader changes in airline loyalty strategies. United continues to tighten control over its MileagePlus program and partner interactions. Therefore, JetBlue may have aligned pricing structures to match evolving partnership dynamics. Additionally, airlines increasingly prioritize direct bookings through their own loyalty systems.

JetBlue may not offer the best value for United redemptions even before this change. Yet this new surcharge policy raises concerns about future trends. If other airlines follow this approach, travelers could face higher costs across multiple programs. As a result, loyalty programs may lose some appeal for international travel.
