Surge in German Tourism During UEFA EURO 2024

In July 2024, foreign visitors generated 10.7 million overnight stays in German hotels and guesthouses with ten or more beds. This represents a 4.5% increase from the previous year. From January to July 2024, inbound tourism in Germany rose by 6.6% to 48.2 million overnight stays compared to the same period in 2023. This figure neared a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 94.9%.

Impact of UEFA EURO 2024 on Hotel Occupancy

The UEFA EURO 2024 had a substantial impact, with 40 matches in June and eleven knockout round matches in July drawing international fans to all 10 host cities. Hotel occupancy rates in Germany hit 71.6% in July 2024, marking a 2.3 percentage point increase from the previous year. The average earnings for hotels reached EUR 108.80 per room per night, up 9.7% year-on-year. Higher-star hotels saw more significant occupancy gains compared to economy segment hotels.
