American Airlines plans to retrofit its first batch of Airbus A319s with a new cabin starting in Spring 2025. The updates include power outlets at every seat, a larger first-class area, and other improvements. This follows the airline’s March announcement about retrofitting its entire A319 and A320 fleet, which includes some of its oldest aircraft.
Upgrades for American Airlines’ A319 Fleet
The legacy A319s will be the first to receive these upgrades. Unlike most of the airline’s A319s, these planes have sharklets and seatback screens. The retrofit aims to meet the rising demand for a premium travel experience.
New Features in the A319 Cabin
The retrofit will replace all seats with new ones, featuring updated trim and finish. Power outlets will be added at every seat. Additionally, the overhead bins will be larger to fit more bags. The first class will gain an extra row, expanding to 12 seats. American Airlines has not yet confirmed if the main cabin will have fewer seats. The new cabin design, known as “Oasis,” has received mixed reviews. It is also used on the Boeing 737-800 and A321 standard models.
Changes in Inflight Entertainment
American Airlines will remove seatback entertainment from these A319s to reduce weight. The legacy A319s, delivered in 2013, initially had seatback screens. However, the airline now promotes personal device entertainment. The A319s, which currently have seatback screens, will likely lose them to match the rest of the narrowbody fleet.
Industry Trends and Airline Strategies
American Airlines’ update reflects broader trends in the industry. While the airline updates its narrowbody fleet, other carriers like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are enhancing their seatback screens. This trend highlights the shift in passenger preferences and airline strategies. Remember to check WentWorld.com and follow our social media channels for ultimate travel tips and destination guides.
