4 Routes Vanish: American Airlines’ Latest Changes at Austin-Bergstrom Airport

American Airlines is making significant changes at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) by dropping four routes later this year. This move continues the airline’s trend of reducing its operations at the airport, following a substantial cutback since last year.

Major Route Reductions by American Airlines

By the end of the year, American Airlines will offer flights to just 10 destinations from AUS, halving its previous network. The airline’s decision comes as it scales down its operations, while its US competitors are expanding their services.

American Airlines Ends Service to Key Cities

American Airlines has announced the removal of flights to the following destinations from AUS after November 4th: Nashville International Airport (BNA), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Raleigh–Durham International Airport (RDU) and John Wayne Airport (SNA)

Impact on Nashville and Boston Routes

The AUS-BNA route, popular among travelers, currently features one daily flight each way. This route, operated by Envoy Air’s Embraer E175, will see a reduction in flights and seats in November. Southwest Airlines, which dominates this route, will increase its frequency and capacity.

Similarly, American Airlines will reduce its daily flights between AUS and BOS. The number of flights and seats will decrease significantly in November, while competitors like Delta, JetBlue Airways, and Southwest continue to serve the route.

Changes to Raleigh–Durham and Orange County Routes

American Airlines offers daily flights on the AUS-RDU route. With fewer flights available next month, Delta and Southwest will increase their services to this destination. American and Southwest also compete on the AUS-SNA route, but Southwest will handle all demand after November 4th.

Adjustments to American Airlines’ Network

Following these route cuts, travelers will need to connect through American Airlines’ hubs, such as Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) or Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), to reach their destinations. The airline will continue to serve other markets including Cancún, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Miami, New York-JFK, Philadelphia, and Los Cabos.

American Airlines is continuously evaluating its network to optimize operations. The airline reaches out to affected passengers to address any inconvenience caused by these changes.
