ITA Airways is making a significant leap in global aviation by joining the prestigious Star Alliance network. This move enhances Italy’s position on the world stage and opens the door to more daily flights across the globe. As Italy’s flag carrier, ITA Airways aims to redefine its role in the airline industry while expanding its reach beyond its borders.
Following the struggles of Alitalia, ITA Airways emerged from years of financial turmoil. In 2020, after a series of failed investments, the Italian government intervened and relaunched the airline under the name Italia Trasporto Aereo (ITA). This transformation allowed the airline to recover from the brink of collapse. Despite the challenges, ITA Airways now stands as a new force in aviation, building a solid foundation for growth.
In its path to global recognition, ITA Airways became part of the Lufthansa Group ecosystem. With 59% of its shares still owned by the Italian government, the airline continues to carry Italy’s flag. Its recent integration into Star Alliance marks a key milestone. The airline now joins a powerful network, offering passengers enhanced connectivity and more travel options. Rome and Milan, the airline’s primary hubs, will experience increased traffic, further elevating Italy’s role in global aviation.
By joining Star Alliance, ITA Airways strengthens its presence in international air travel. This integration adds 360 additional daily flights to the network, significantly boosting global connectivity. ITA Airways’ decision to exit the SkyTeam alliance and embrace Star Alliance signals its readiness for growth. As the airline continues to develop, passengers flying in and out of Italy will benefit from greater options and improved service.
