Aeromexico is strengthening its presence in Colombia by launching a new direct route between Mexico City and Cali. The airline will begin daily flights on June 19, 2025, using the Boeing 737 MAX 8. This expansion supports Aeromexico’s strategy to boost air connectivity between Mexico and South America. As a result, travelers will have more convenient options when flying between the two regions.
Flights from Mexico City will take off in the afternoon, reaching Cali by evening. Meanwhile, return flights from Cali will depart in the morning and arrive in Mexico City around midday. In addition to this new service, Aeromexico recently introduced a similar route to Cartagena, which started on February 20, 2025. By adding these routes, the airline is reinforcing its commitment to expanding in high-demand markets.
Aeromexico aims to capitalize on growing travel demand between the two nations. Since it is a SkyTeam alliance member, the airline is expanding its network to offer better options for both business and leisure travelers. Moreover, more direct flights position Mexico City as a key hub, improving access to Latin America for global passengers.
This expansion is expected to boost tourism in Cali and Cartagena. Cali, famous for its vibrant salsa culture, is attracting more visitors. Likewise, Cartagena, a top destination for international travelers, will benefit from increased tourism partnerships with Mexico. Consequently, local businesses in both cities may see higher revenue from incoming travelers.
Beyond tourism, the new flights will strengthen economic ties. Mexico and Colombia have seen rising trade volumes, and direct air connectivity will improve logistics for businesses. As a result, industries such as finance, commerce, and international trade will benefit from faster and more efficient transportation.
Aeromexico faces growing competition from regional and low-cost carriers. Therefore, by adding new routes and using fuel-efficient aircraft, the airline is enhancing its market presence. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 offers operational efficiency, making it a strategic choice for expanding into Colombia.
Travelers will benefit from more flexible flight options, potentially lower fares, and easier connections. In the long run, this move reflects a broader trend in Latin American aviation, where airlines are expanding regional connectivity to meet rising passenger demand.
