Aeromexico, Mexico’s flagship airline, is set to revive its service to Phoenix, Arizona, starting March 30, 2025. This daily route from Mexico City will notably challenge American Airlines, which has long dominated this market. Importantly, this new service marks Aeromexico’s first regular mainline flights to Phoenix in 16 years, highlighting its significant return to this vibrant U.S. destination.
Furthermore, the last time Aeromexico flew a mainline aircraft to Phoenix was in 2008. Although Aeromexico Connect previously served the area, it stopped operations in 2014. Thus, this new connection emphasizes Aeromexico’s commitment to expanding its network in the United States.
Aeromexico will operate the Boeing 737 MAX 8 for this route. The aircraft features two distinct seating configurations. Specifically, the primary setup accommodates 166 passengers in a two-class layout. In Clase Premier, the airline offers 16 recliner seats, while the economy section includes 150 seats arranged in a 3-3 format. Additionally, a second version provides 180 seats, mainly for standard economy travel, with the middle seats unsold for added comfort.
This new route operates under flight numbers AM614 and AM615. For the outbound flight, it departs Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX) at 09:55. Subsequently, it arrives at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) at 12:25. Then, the return leg leaves PHX at 13:51 and lands back in Mexico City at 18:00.
Moreover, Aeromexico’s entry into this market reflects its decision to serve underserved routes. While the airline provides nonstop flights to major West Coast destinations, it has limited service to Phoenix. By launching this route, Aeromexico aims to reclaim its presence and compete directly with American Airlines, which has maintained a hub in Phoenix for over 20 years.
Ultimately, this expansion not only enhances travel options for passengers but also showcases Aeromexico’s determination to grow its international footprint.
