Air China’s Direct Flights from Beijing to Toronto: A 33-Year Wait Ends

Air China will restart direct flights between Beijing and Toronto on May 20, 2025, after 33 years. This move strengthens the airline’s presence in the competitive transpacific market. The airline will operate two flights per week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, Passengers will have access to three service classes—First, Business, and Economy—offering a variety of choices. Air China had previously served the BeijingToronto route until 1992 before withdrawing. In 2024, Hainan Airlines launched its own nonstop flights on the same route, increasing competition. With both airlines offering nonstop service, passengers now have more flight options. This competition will likely lead to lower fares and better service quality, benefiting travelers.

Air China’s return to Toronto also represents its effort to streamline its route network. The airline will shift resources from Vancouver services to Toronto, where demand is higher. This strategy demonstrates the airline’s commitment to improving connectivity between China and Canada.
