Air France Unveils Plans for New Lounge at Newark Airport

Air France, a key player in the SkyTeam Alliance, is set to enhance the passenger experience at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) with a new lounge. The airline has proposed to establish its seventh lounge in the United States, specifically located in Terminal B3. This new space will cover an impressive 6,129 square feet, catering to travelers seeking comfort before their flights.

The airline aims to sign a seven-year lease, including three one-year extension options. Over this initial term, Air France plans to invest about $13.4 million while committing at least $3 million for renovations. This move marks Air France’s return to Newark after a decade-long absence, as it now operates daily flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) on the Airbus A350.

Currently, Air France manages six lounges across the U.S. In New York, the airline boasts a spacious 200+ seat lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Additional lounges are in cities like Boston, Los Angeles, Houston, Washington D.C., and San Francisco, ensuring premium services for travelers nationwide.

The decision to open a lounge in Newark is notable. Most flights to Paris operate from JFK, but a dedicated lounge at Newark offers premium customers convenience near their departure gates. This initiative aligns with Air France’s strategy to enhance the travel experience for its business class passengers.

Newark Liberty International Airport plays a crucial role in connecting New York to international destinations. The airport is undergoing significant upgrades, part of the EWR Vision Plan, to meet rising passenger demands. Last year, Newark’s Terminal B welcomed over 12 million travelers, surpassing its original capacity of 6.8 million.

Moreover, two other lounges in Terminal B are seeking to renew their leases. British Airways plans to maintain its 8,200-square-foot space, while La Compagnie aims to secure a new lease for its 4,946-square-foot lounge, reinforcing Newark’s status as a hub for international travel.
