Air India Express Plans Massive Expansion with Bold Growth Strategy

Air India Express is gearing up for massive growth as it aims to serve 30 million passengers by 2025-26. The airline is expanding its network, strengthening global partnerships, and transitioning to an all-economy fleet. These strategic moves will enhance connectivity and improve efficiency, positioning the airline as a dominant low-cost carrier.

The Tata Group-backed airline currently operates 103 aircraft, including Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s, with nearly 485 daily flights. To accelerate expansion, it is increasing virtual interline agreements with international low-cost airlines. These agreements, facilitated by its AIX Connect platform, allow seamless bookings across multiple carriers, making travel more convenient for passengers.

The airline’s all-economy transformation is another major initiative. It plans to remove business and premium economy seats, ensuring a uniform low-cost model. Retrofitting will begin in the next financial year, and by early 2026-27, the entire fleet will offer only economy seating. This move will simplify operations and maintain consistent service quality across all flights.

By enhancing partnerships and streamlining its fleet, Air India Express aims to create a seamless travel experience. Its rapid expansion and improved connectivity will strengthen its position in the competitive aviation market. As demand for budget air travel grows, the airline is set to play a key role in shaping the future of affordable air travel in India.
