Air India is shifting its travel policy. Starting April 1, senior executives and the CEO must fly economy class. This change will prioritize premium seats for paying customers. Under Tata Group’s ownership, the airline is focusing more on a customer-centered experience. In addition, it is investing in new aircraft and upgrading its fleet. Rising demand for premium seats has, therefore, prompted this decision.
The new policy will require executives, including the CEO, to fly economy on domestic flights. The airline will roll out this change gradually. Executives at the vice president level and above will begin on April 1, while senior commanders will follow from June 1. Ultimately, the airline aims to keep premium seats available for passengers who pay for them. Since the Tata Group’s acquisition in January 2022, Air India has, in fact, seen a rise in demand for premium seating.
Furthermore, staff can upgrade to business or premium economy if these seats remain empty 50 minutes before departure. Previously, staff could fly business class, even on domestic work trips. Air India currently offers 50,000 premium economy seats each week across its narrow-body fleet. This fleet made up of A320 aircraft, now includes more premium economy seats. By October, the airline will add these seats to 27 more A320 planes. As a result, Air India will be able to meet the growing demand for premium travel options.
Air India, one of India’s oldest and most prominent airlines, has undergone significant transformations since its acquisition by the Tata Group. With a legacy dating back to 1932, it has long symbolized Indian aviation. Under the new leadership and ownership, Air India is now striving to regain its competitive edge in both domestic and international markets. Moreover, the airline is committed to offering high-quality services and enhancing customer satisfaction. Its ongoing efforts to revamp staff policies and upgrade aircraft ensure that it meets the evolving needs of today’s travelers.
