WASHINGTON – Air travelers are facing another day of delays and cancellations as airlines continue to grapple with the fallout from a global technology glitch that disrupted operations earlier this week.
The issue, which affected multiple airlines worldwide, began on Monday and caused widespread disruptions to flight schedules. While the exact cause of the glitch remains unclear, it is believed to have originated with a major air traffic control system provider.
While many airlines have managed to restore their systems, the backlog of delayed and canceled flights continues to impact travelers. According to FlightAware, a flight tracking website, over 1,000 flights within, into, and out of the United States have been delayed and over 200 have been canceled as of Wednesday afternoon.
“We are working diligently to recover from the recent technical issues and get our passengers back on schedule,” said a spokesperson for one major airline. “We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate our customers’ patience.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has stated that it is monitoring the situation closely and working with airlines to minimize disruptions. However, the agency has warned that delays and cancellations are likely to continue for several days as airlines work to catch up.
Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates on their flight status and to be prepared for potential delays or cancellations.
