AirAsia X Soars Higher with Strong Passenger Surge and Profits

AirAsia X delivered strong results in early 2025, thanks to a sharp rise in passenger demand. As a result, the airline expanded its seat capacity and adjusted routes to capture more market share. This strategy increased revenue and boosted operational strength.

In the first quarter, AirAsia X earned RM940 million, growing steadily from the previous year. Moreover, the carrier flew 1.08 million passengers by adding more seats and deploying aircraft efficiently. Load factors held firm at 83%, which signaled consistent demand on its main routes.

Instead of raising fares, the airline focused on growing extra service income. Therefore, each passenger spent more, and total ancillary revenue rose 24%. In fact, the company used digital upgrades and tailored offers to drive higher spend per traveler.

AirAsia X Thailand also played a vital role in group growth. After moving its hub to Don Mueang, the unit quickly stabilized operations. Consequently, passenger numbers climbed 14% to over 500,000, while seat capacity increased 23%. The Thai division also held load factors at 83%, proving smart use of resources.

Earlier in the year, the airline added a new aircraft, expanding its total fleet to 19. With 17 aircraft flying, AirAsia X increased flight frequency to high-demand destinations. Notably, routes to Japan and Australia reached nearly 90% load factors, confirming solid demand and smart planning.

Looking forward, AirAsia X plans to scale up growth in Asia-Pacific. It will expand the Fly-Thru network and increase fleet size. Because of its adaptive strategies and yield-driven planning, the airline remains in a strong position to lead the region’s recovery.
