Indian Airlines urges the government to cut user charges at Srinagar airport. They believe lower fees will reduce ticket prices and bring back tourists. The recent tragedy in Pahalgam scared away travelers and hit tourism hard. Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet want fast action to support the region.
Kashmir saw a tourism boom before the attack. Arrivals at Srinagar airport reached a 15-year high. But now, tourist numbers have dropped by over 50%. Airlines slashed daily flights, and hotels stay mostly empty. Even big discounts can’t fill rooms.
Security fears keep travelers away. Military strikes closed many airports near the border. This added more problems for airlines and tourists. High airport fees also push airfares up. Each passenger pays more than Rs 1,200 in extra charges. Indian Airlines wants these fees waived for one year.
Tourism workers now face big losses. Hotel owners and tour companies can’t attract guests. Discounts no longer work. The summer season is near, but hope is fading. The industry wants urgent help.
Indian Airlines say the fee cut is just a start. They need a full recovery plan. The plan must include money support, better safety, and strong promotion. Together, these steps can bring tourists back to Kashmir.
The government must respond now. A quick fee cut will help bring relief. A long-term solution will rebuild trust and grow tourism again. With the right moves, Kashmir can shine once more.
